About Paul

Paul commentates on industry issues and trends, writing predominantly for an industry audience and speaking on both industry and public podiums. He has been described as the Michael Moore of Australian financial services. He believes that financial consumers need not be victims and that the key to their empowerment is financial literacy. Paul’s has worked in all parts of the financial services supply chain and, brings to his arguments a critical understanding of the inner workings of the industry.

Paul has spoken at the annual conferences of the Association of Super Funds of Australia, the Investment and Financial Services Association, the Financial Planning Association, the Mortgage Industry Association of Australia and the Association of Financial Advisors amongst others. He has presented on personal financial planning issues in the UK, Malaysia and New Zealand. Paul writes extensively on personal financial planning issues. His critical analysis of the risks in margin lending called “Borrowing to Invest. The fast way to wealth?” written jointly with leading financial planner Noel Whittaker was published by Simon and Schuster in 2002.

Paul is actively involved in both industry education and public financial literacy. He co-founded Resnik Communications, the financial services industry’s highly regarded conference organiser which was acquired by US based financial educator Kaplan Professional in 2003.

Paul has worked in the Australian financial services industry since 1983 and the superannuation sector since 1970. Paul was the inaugural general manager of both Bankers Trust Life and Norwich Australia Asset Management and was a founding executive of Australia’s first institutionally owned financial planning network FPI. Paul has been a key participant in defining and delivering financial products and services that have raised in excess of Au$35 billion.

Through the Paul Resnik Consulting Group [founded in 1991], Paul has provided strategic and practical advice to all of Australia’s major banks, life companies as well as most of the major funds managers, wrap account suppliers and financial planning groups. He consults to financial services organisations seeking assistance to develop products and distribution strategies for investment, life insurance, superannuation, home equity release, wrap accounts and Separately Managed Accounts [SMAs].

Paul was a founding investor of a number of financial services businesses including Transact, the UK’s largest privately owned wrap platform, CARM which builds communication tools to assist financial institutions educate their members/customers and FinaMetrica. FinaMetrica’s US patented personal financial risk tolerance assessment methodology is now in use in 13 countries including the USA and the UK. He is CEO of FinaMetrica.
